Ukrainian Anton Basenko has been openly living with HIV for 21 years. In 2013, he joined the international Alliance for Public Health, coordinating HIV, TB and viral hepatitis prevention and treatment among key populations. He is a founding member and Chair of the Board of the first Ukrainian national network of people who use drugs, Chair of the Board of the International Network of People who Use Drugs (INPUD) and board member of the Eurasian Key Populations Health Coalition. Since 2016, Anton has been a Member of the Communities Delegation of the Global Fund Board, and since 2017, a representative of the community of people who use drugs in the Ukraine Cabinet of Minister’s HIV/TB National Council. In 2021, he moved to Belgium to work as Programme Manager on Quality of Life at the European AIDS Treatment Group. He is a member of the Community Advisory Board to the Medicines Patent Pool. In 2023, he joined the European Federation of Allergies and Airways Diseases Patients’ Associations as a community engagement manager. Anton has a Master’s in international economy. Anton is a DJ, winter skier and loving father of a 5-year-old son. His life motto is: “If I stayed alive after all that’s happened in my life, then I have an important mission to save the lives of my peers and people in similar trouble.”
