World AIDS Day 2026 social toolkit: Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.
Join the movement to #RethinkRebuildRise
The HIV response has always been driven by resilience, science, activism and collaboration. As funding cuts and shifting global priorities threaten progress, we must rethink how the response is financed and delivered, rebuild essential services and strengthen community-led responses, and rise together to secure a stronger, more sustainable future for all.
This World AIDS Day, 1 December 2026, we focus on one word: rebuild.
In July, the global HIV community came together at AIDS 2026, the 26th International AIDS Conference. We rethought how the HIV response is financed, delivered and led. Now is the time to turn those ideas into lasting change – to rebuild.
Rebuilding is not simply about restoring what has been lost. It is about building a stronger, more sustainable and people-centred HIV response.
It means protecting and strengthening essential HIV services, empowering communities to lead, securing sustainable financing and safeguarding the science that drives progress. It means ensuring that people living with and affected by HIV have a voice in shaping the services and decisions that affect their lives.
The time to rebuild is now. And everyone has a role to play.
This World AIDS Day, we want to hear from you
What needs to be rebuilt? What is already working? And what will you do to help build a stronger HIV response?
Join the global movement by sharing your story, message, photo or video, using the hashtag, #RethinkRebuildRise. Show the world what rebuilding the HIV response looks like in your community and how you are making it happen.
To help guide your message, consider these prompts:
Rethink
- What should change in how we approach the HIV response?
Rebuild
- What must we protect, restore or strengthen to rebuild the HIV response?
- What does a rebuilt HIV response look like in your community?
- Which service, programme or partnership should we prioritize rebuilding? Why?
- What should be rebuilt differently?
- What has your community already rebuilt? What did it take?
- What actions will you take to rebuild the HIV response?
Rise
- What does it mean for all of us to rise together?
We have the science, the experience and the community leadership. Now we need the commitment and collective action to rebuild a stronger HIV response, grounded in the rights and dignity of all people.
