Susana Valente is Professor and Chair of the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology. Susana earned a PhD in virology from the University of Paris VII in France and did postdoctoral training at Columbia University, New York. Her team focuses on mechanisms that regulate HIV-1 transcription and latency in memory CD4+T cells, as well as the development of antiviral molecules that suppress the reservoir of latently infected cells. Her laboratory has pioneered the “block-and-lock” approach for a functional HIV cure. Susana has received numerous awards for her creative work in science, including an NIH Merit award.
