Accreditation statement by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education  

“The AIDS 2026, the 26th International AIDS Conference, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 26/07/2026, has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 26.0 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.”

Credit conversion 

“Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications.”

“Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.”

“Credit will be converted based on one (1) hour of participation equalling one credit for all activities. Physicians wishing to convert EACCME® credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ will be required to access the AMA website at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications to obtain the necessary paperwork and instructions. Physicians and other health care professionals will be required to pay a processing fee to the AMA.

How to claim ECMEC®s credits™

  • To claim ECMEC®s credits™, please complete this evaluation form after the conference. The deadline to submit the form is Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
  • Eligible session types are: plenary sessions, special sessions, oral abstract sessions, symposia and workshops. You can view sessions eligible for credits in the online programme by using the filter, “CME accreditation”. Sessions eligible for credits will also be marked on the virtual conference platform.
  • One hour of participation in an eligible session equals one credit; 30 minutes of participation in an eligible session equals 0.5 credit.
  • The maximum total number of credits to claim is 26 (7 credits on 28 July, 6.5 credits on 29 July, 6.5 credits eon 30 July and 6 credits on 31 July).
  • Each participant can receive only the number of credits they are entitled to according to their actual participation in the event once they have completed the evaluation form.
  • Credits may be claimed only for educational sessions in which you participated (in person or virtually) from 28 to 31 July 2026. Participation on any other day is not considered for credits.
  • Please note that all data from the evaluation form, as well as data on your attendance at the conference, may be shared with the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for the purpose of processing your application for credits. Your data will be stored by IAS – the International AIDS Society – and be accessible to EACCME® for six years.
  • After you have completed the form, we will verify your attendance and contact you via email to issue the ECMEC®s credits™ certificate.

Overall learning objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Integrate the latest scientific evidence into clinical practice, research and HIV programmes and better align them with broader public health and emergency response strategies.
  2. Evaluate and apply emerging research priorities to inform HIV research agendas, including advances towards an HIV cure or remission and vaccine, patient-centred approaches to prevention, treatment and care, and the management of co-infections and co-morbidities.
  3. Implement person-centred, rights-based approaches to HIV services that address structural barriers, respond to the needs of key and vulnerable populations and enhance equitable access to prevention, treatment and care.
  4. Foster and engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations to strengthen programme implementation, drive innovation and improve health outcomes.
