HIV prevention conference set to precede IAS 2027 in public health hub
22 September 2026 (Geneva, Switzerland) – IAS – the International AIDS Society – will host HIVR4P 2027, the 6th HIV Research for Prevention Conference, in Geneva, Switzerland, and virtually from 10 to 12 July 2027. It will immediately precede IAS 2027, the 14th IAS Conference on HIV Science, which takes place from 12 to 15 July.
“We are excited to bring HIVR4P, the only global scientific conference focused exclusively on HIV prevention research, to the public health hub of Geneva,” IAS President Kenneth Ngure said. “This moment for HIV prevention science is defined by both extraordinary scientific promise and serious headwinds from funding cuts and geopolitical shifts. HIVR4P 2027 will advance the science, chart the way forward, and allow participants to benefit from the shared momentum with IAS 2027.”
While the two conferences will share learnings, they will provide distinct perspectives on HIV prevention. The HIVR4P Conference is where new discoveries in prevention science are discussed; the IAS Conference is where the roll out and scale up of proven prevention interventions are explored.
At HIVR4P 2027, delegates will have the opportunity to discover the latest in the prevention science pipeline, including vaccines, bNAbs and delivery technology. This will span four thematic areas: factors influencing HIV transmission and prevention; means of HIV prevention; correlates of protection and vaccine development; and crossover topics, such as preclinical studies, STIs and mpox.
IAS 2027 will cover the full spectrum of HIV science – not limited to prevention – sharing the latest research along with innovations that move science into policy and practice. It spans five tracks: basic science; clinical science; epidemiology (including surveillance, modelling and monitoring); social and behavioural sciences; and implementation science, economics, systems and synergies.
The conferences share a bridge day – 12 July – to build connections across the prevention and broader HIV science communities and to enhance learning about cross-cutting issues.
For both conferences, the IAS will enhance accessibility and equity, particularly for participants from low- and middle-income countries, with scholarships and tiered fee structures.
