IAS – the International AIDS Society – invites you to a webinar, titled “Optimizing HIV prevention, care and well-being for trans women”. Trans women face a disproportionate and profound burden of HIV. Globally and locally, structural, social and systemic inequities continue to drive this disparity, highlighting the need for targeted, evidence-based responses. These inequities include stigma, discrimination, barriers to healthcare and increased vulnerability to violence.

This webinar will explore key healthcare needs and considerations for trans women, with particular attention paid to the experiences of sex workers. Among these are interactions between gender-affirming hormone therapy and PrEP, as well as treatment-related impacts on sexual health. The session will also examine the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by trans women living with HIV.

Moderator:

  • Alegra Wolter, Kirby Institute, Australia

Confirmed speakers:

  • Tonia Poteat, Gillings School of Global Public Health, USA
