What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

I live in a country where the effects of HIV are severe for particular groups of people, including adolescents and young people. This is coupled with other barriers to healthcare, especially sexual and reproductive health, which increases the burden and impact of HIV. As a young woman, my experience has made me appreciate the vulnerabilities adolescents and young women face. These make them even likely to acquire HIV and have put me in a position to be part of the response.

I draw my inspiration from the passion I have for every adolescent and young person, who, no matter their HIV status, race, location of gender identity, have the opportunity to live to their fullest potential.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goal is advancing meaningful engagement of adolescents and young people in HIV science, research and programming for more targeted, responsive and impactful outcomes.

The IAS promotes the use of non-stigmatizing, people-first language. The translations are all automated in the interest of making our content as widely accessible as possible. Regretfully, they may not always adhere to the people-first language of the original version.
