What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

I am motivated by empowering communities with information for both prevention and treatment. I am motivated by the knowledge that people have the capacity to make meaningful changes in their lives if they have enough information on how to navigate the challenges in their lives. For example, if adolescent girls and young women have information about HIV prevention or treatment and cure, they can make informed choices. The same goes for the media as they are the bridge between communities, researchers and advocates. If they have enough information and capacity, they can report better on HIV. I am motivated by the desire to work with media as an important ally in the HIV response.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goal is a well-informed, capacitated and motivated society keen to see an end to the AIDS epidemic. I want to see adolescent girls and young women possessing information and capacity to make informed choices about HIV prevention care and treatment. I want to see media that are capacitated to meaningful report on HIV cure and responsive to the needs of communities regarding HIV information. I want to see the media as an ally in the HIV response, informing, educating and entertaining, and also being a watchdog and equal partner in responding to HIV.
