What inspires you to work in the HIV field?
Significant progress has been made in developing novel HIV drugs and delivery systems for prevention and treatment. However, certain key populations are often excluded from early clinical studies that optimize how best to dose the novel medicines safely. These include pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and their infants. I am driven to change the paradigm by conducting clinical studies, as early as possible, in these key sub-groups to ensure the safety of new HIV drugs and delivery systems.
What are your goals as an IAS change maker?
My goal is to contribute to protecting pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and their infants through research by understanding how best to optimize the dosing of novel HIV drug delivery systems in these key sub-populations that are often not included in early dose-finding clinical trials.
