Keletso Makofane has worked in the global HIV response in different capacities, mainly focusing on HIV among gay men and other men who have sex with men. In South Africa, he managed a large HIV prevention and testing outreach programme. He has provided technical assistance to community-based HIV programmes in eastern and southern Africa and has also conducted and published scientific research on health and human rights. 

As part of his advocacy efforts toward an inclusive global HIV response, Keletso has served on several working groups and committees that influence the response. These include the newly established IAS–Lancet Commission on the future of the HIV response and global health, the Global Advocacy Platform to Fast-Track the HIV and Human Rights Responses Among Gay and Bisexual Men and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men, and the WHO Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee on HIV and Viral Hepatitis.  

Keletso is currently working towards a PhD in social epidemiology at Harvard University.
