The Advocacy-for-Cure Academy, organized with AVAC, awards fellowships to advocates and peer educators to participate in a series of interactive workshops with a faculty of world-renowned scientists and advocates.
The academy will provide tools and resources for fellows to develop their research literacy in HIV cure and improve and reinforce their advocacy and engagement skills in line with recommendations from Research priorities for an HIV cure: International AIDS Society Global Scientific Strategy 2021.
The objectives are to:
- Provide training and skills building on current HIV cure research strategies, barriers to a cure, and accurately communicating scientific results, especially to communities.
- Develop translational tools to disseminate information to the wider community, including policy makers, the media and programme managers.
- Create opportunities to interact with leading researchers and advocates in the field to expand the network of advocates working in the HIV cure area.
To be eligible, applicants should:
- Have sufficient proficiency in English
- Be an advocate or peer educator in the HIV field
- Be affiliated with HIV associations, groups or committees based in countries with limited resources for HIV cure research
- Be interested in the latest research developments towards an HIV cure
