Asli Heitzer is a project manager at the International AIDS Society, where she focuses on capacity building in Africa. She earned her PhD in molecular biology from the University of Regensburg, Germany. Subsequently, Asli spent several years working on the immunological assessment of clinical trials in Tanzania and trained researchers in Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Chad in cutting-edge diagnostic methods, biosafety and biosecurity. She has a strong background and extensive experience in academic and clinical HIV vaccine research, as well as in project and laboratory management.
Asli is passionate about working in multicultural contexts and international and interdisciplinary settings, and she is committed to strengthening research knowledge and capacity on the African continent.
