What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

HIV has undergone a metamorphosis to a chronic manageable disease, with treatment going from countless tablets to fixed-dose combinations and now long-acting injectable therapy. This has been one of the many miracles of human medicine, making it possible for people living with HIV to live longer and, most importantly, to live with dignity. This alone inspires me to continue looking after people living with HIV through to old age, ensuring that their quality of life is at its maximum.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goal is to continue training and mentoring the next generation of HIV clinicians and researchers to bolster already motivated individuals making a difference in the lives of people living with HIV.

The IAS promotes the use of non-stigmatizing, people-first language. The translations are all automated in the interest of making our content as widely accessible as possible. Regretfully, they may not always adhere to the people-first language of the original version.
