What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

The suffering due to HIV that I witnessed when I was still a medical student was so immense that I decided to do something about it. In an upcountry hospital, I set up monthly clinics for paediatric HIV, integrating this with perinatal transmission programmes. I later joined an NGO that focused on strengthening HIV/TB health systems. Currently, my interest is targeted at HIV/TB research. After the recent fellowship, HIV cure research is my new interest.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goal is to be part of a research project for HIV cure.

The IAS promotes the use of non-stigmatizing, people-first language. The translations are all automated in the interest of making our content as widely accessible as possible. Regretfully, they may not always adhere to the people-first language of the original version.
