What inspires you to work in the HIV field?
My inspiration to work in the HIV field stems from my extensive involvement in initiatives focused on youth leadership and mobilizing young people. As the National President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students, I lead a network of over 50,000 pharmacy students in Nigeria, advocating for improved access to life-saving medications, such as antiretrovirals, and promoting awareness campaigns in underserved populations.
I am continually inspired by the transformative roles that young people play in the HIV response. Young leaders bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas and a relentless drive to address the unique challenges faced by their peers. They are often at the forefront of advocacy, pushing for policy changes and improved access to treatments. I strongly believe that we can harness the energy and creativity of young people to develop effective prevention strategies, combat stigma, and provide support to people living with HIV.
What are your goals as an IAS change maker?
As an IAS change maker, my goals are to empower young leaders by organizing workshops and mentorship programmes to build their leadership skills and provide platforms for their voices. I will run awareness campaigns online and in communities to reduce stigma and spread accurate information about HIV, using social media and peer education to ensure that young people are well-informed and supportive. Effective networking with other young leaders and organizations will provide the opportunity for me to amplify our impact and bring innovative solutions to the table.
I will also support and develop practical solutions tailored to the challenges young people face, such as community-based programmes and tech-driven initiatives. Additionally, as a youth leader in my country, I will engage with policy makers to represent the needs of young people in HIV strategies, influencing policies that create a more supportive environment for our efforts.
