What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

I am passionate about global health and social justice. The history of the HIV and AIDS pandemic has sadly been marked by stigma, discrimination and inequalities, all against the backdrop of many scientific unknowns. With a mixed background in the social and biomedical sciences, I am acutely aware that the response to HIV and AIDS needs to bridge scientific innovation with an understanding of the social determinants of health in different parts of the world, always upholding the highest standards in human rights and working towards a world where everyone living with, affected by, and vulnerable to HIV can live wholesome and dignified lives.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goals are to help advance research and knowledge that can be used to advocate for policies that:

  • Amplify the voices of affected populations
  • Address the social determinants of health and stigma
  • Support the development of and equitable access to healthcare and innovative technologies
