Visa information for Peru
It is the delegate’s responsibility to investigate visa requirements for Peru and apply for a visa, if necessary. Delegates are advised to apply for their visa as soon as possible because the visa process can take up to three months.
Entry requirements depend on your nationality.
A general list of visa requirements by nationality is available at https://www.gob.pe/institucion/rree/informes-publicaciones/279522-convenios-de-visas-para-ciudadanos-extranjeros.
Visa application process
If you need a visa to enter Peru, you must apply for it at the Peruvian consular office responsible for your place of residence. Please note that it is each person’s responsibility to verify the country-specific document requirements and processes with the appropriate consular office.
Processing times may vary depending on the office. Consult your embassy or consulate to find out how to book an appointment, and keep in mind that there may be a long waiting time.
The list of consular offices is available at https://www.consulado.pe/paginas/Inicio.aspx.
The cost of a visa application is about USD 30.
Useful information
- The submission of a visa application and supporting documents does not guarantee that a visa will be issued. Each application is assessed individually.
- During the processing of your application, you may be required to submit additional documents.
- If your visa application is denied, you can submit a new application after six months. Likewise, denial of a visa, regardless of immigration status, is final and cannot be appealed.
- Tourist and business visas issued by the Peruvian government must be used within six months of being issued; if you don't use them in that time, you will have to reapply for a visa.
FAQs
How do I obtain a visa for Peru?
Please note that it is the delegate’s responsibility to investigate visa requirements for Peru and apply for a visa, if necessary. Delegates are advised to apply for their visa as soon as possible because the visa process can take up to three months.
Applicants are required to personally submit their visa applications, along with all the required documents, at the Peruvian mission or embassy responsible for their country or the nearest representative office.
Does the IAS provide any form of support in the visa application process?
Fully registered delegates can obtain an invitation letter from the IAS to support their visa application.
How do I obtain a letter of invitation?
Delegates who need an invitation letter from the IAS can request one while completing the online registration form. To receive an invitation letter for HIVR4P 2024, delegates must first register for HIVR4P 2024, pay in full and submit any required supporting documentation. Delegates who did not request an invitation letter during the registration process should get in touch with the HIVR4P 2024 Registration team at registration2024@hivr4p.org.
It is important to note that this letter of invitation does not impose any financial obligations on the IAS. All costs associated with participating in the conference are the sole responsibility of the delegate. Furthermore, the letter of invitation does not guarantee that a visa for entry into Peru will be issued.
If you have submitted a scholarship application, please do not register for the conference separately. If your application is successful, the IAS will notify you in mid-June and instruct you on how to obtain your award and invitation letter.
Can I change my registration from in person to virtual or get a refund if my visa is unsuccessful?
If the delegate applied for the visa in time (that is, at least three months before the travel date) and can show proof that the visa was not granted even though all requested documents were submitted, the delegate may request:
- Changing their in-person plus virtual registration to a virtual registration and getting the difference to their in-person and virtual registration fee refunded
- Full reimbursement for their in-person plus virtual registration minus a handling fee of USD 65
To request either of these options, delegates must contact the HIVR4P 2024 Registration team by email and provide the visa rejection letter no later than 6 October. No requests will be accepted after 6 October. The request to change to virtual registration or request a refund will not be acted upon until the delegate has received written acknowledgement from the HIVR4P 2024 Registration team.
