Call for applications! Join the IAS Industry Liaison Forum (ILF)

posted on

The International AIDS Society (IAS) is looking for two civil society representatives to join our Industry Liaison Forum (ILF). This is an opportunity to make YOUR voice heard. Become a member of the ILF Advisory Group and represent civil society’s point of view, helping define the work of the ILF and its contribution to the global response to HIV.

There are concerns that private industry may be primarily concerned with profits, which contributes to the exclusion of valuable stakeholders from key discussions, impacting the global response to the HIV epidemic. The IAS thinks otherwise, and its ILF promotes the meaningful contribution of industry and its experts in research and global health as part of a truly multi-stakeholder response. In fact, the IAS recognizes the essential input of all experts, including civil society and the community of people affected by HIV.

With these guiding principles in mind, we invite you to add your voice to the ILF Advisory Group. This is an opportunity to provide regular strategic guidance to ILF activities and to contribute to a genuinely multi‑stakeholder platform active in a variety of areas aligned with the work of the IAS. As an ILF Advisory Group member, you will gain access to a diverse, high-level network of professionals. Have a look at the application requirements and apply today.

Key elements for applications:

  • The deadline for applications is Friday, 25 September 2015.
  • Civil society representatives are broadly defined as individuals representing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in HIV and related co-morbidities, including but not restricted to networks of people living with HIV and/or key populations.
  • The ILF strives to promote diversity in its advisory group with regards to HIV expertise, geography, gender and viewpoints, and strongly supports the GIPA Principle (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV and AIDS). The ILF Advisory Group will take this into account when it makes its selection. It will assess the personal engagement of candidates according to these criteria:
    • Affiliation with an NGO (international, regional or community-based) involved in HIV‑related issues and active connections with civil society networks
    • Experience in engaging with a variety of stakeholders, such as health care workers, industry, academia, intergovernmental organizations, civil society and people affected by HIV
    • Experience in areas related to industry (prevention, diagnostics, treatment) and/or the work of the IAS (HIV cure, paediatric HIV, HIV co‑infections and key populations)
    • Experience in national, regional and/or international policy-making and advocacy
    • Experience representing and/or supporting communities of people affected by HIV
  • The selected candidates will participate actively in the ILF (through weekly emails, quarterly calls and one or more annual meetings) and will be willing to serve in a voluntary capacity with the possibility of occasional travel support to participate to ILF activities (e.g., at IAS conferences).
  • The selected candidates will be appointed for a period of up to two years. Terms of reference are available online.
  • Applications must include a cover letter and curriculumvitae and be addressed to Sébastien Morin (Research Officer, Industry Liaison Forum, [email protected]).
