What is your motivation for engaging in HIV cure and remission research?
Since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, so much have been learned and achieved in the management and treatment of the disease. However, HIV/AIDS is still affecting millions around the world, many of them with the additional burden of suffering discrimination. The work is still not finished, not until we reach the ultimate goal of finding an HIV cure. I want to contribute to the fight for a future free of HIV.
What is your current area of research?
I have been involved in the field of humoral response against HIV. My doctoral research project was on identifying and characterizing “neutralizing and non-neutralizing antibodies” against HIV with the goal to find targets useful for vaccination. Currently, I am establishing my research laboratory where I plan to continue researching the immune response against HIV.
