What is your motivation for engaging in HIV cure and remission research?
My main motivation is the people: the majority of patients that I happened to talk with have always shown genuine interest in the topics of HIV cure. By just talking about a cure, an enormous impact can be made in a very personal and unique way for patients. Achieving HIV remission or cure can bring groundbreaking changes in their lives not just for their health but on how people live their lives, how they perceive their place in society or even how they feel about themselves.
What is your current area of research?
My current area of research is HIV drug resistance, especially in relation with integrase inhibitors. I have also observed the evolution of the reservoir through time in patients under long-term suppressive antiretroviral treatment.
