Recommendations Endorsed by IAS Governing Council

Recommendations for changes to the International AIDS Conference, based on input to the Future Directions project, were wholly endorsed by the IAS Governing Council at its meeting in November 2005.

Thank you to everyone who provided input to Future Directions.

We still need your ideas!

IAS is seeking input on an ongoing basis, and we will continue to review recommendations for change at the International AIDS Conference. You can write us an email or contribute in one of our forums. Tell us what you think has worked at past conferences and what needs to be improved. Give us your ideas for future International AIDS Conferences.

In keeping with recommendations from Future Directions, IAS will do evaluations of each of its conferences and use consultations, interviews, and web-based dialogue to bring more voices into an ongoing conversation about conference evolution.

What is Future Directions?
In 2005, the Future Directions project held five group consultations attended by over 60 individuals, completed over 50 confidential interviews, and received over 60 emails and over 50 postings to the Future Directions online discussion forums. Recommendations based on this input were presented to the IAS Governing Council in November 2005, accepted by the Governing Council.

The IAS continues to seek input on an ongoing basis, and we will continue to review recommendations for change at the International AIDS Conference.

Through Future Directions, we ask:
  • How can the International AIDS Conference promote productive debate, and help all of us track progress, identify challenges, and develop common agendas for action across the field of AIDS and across constituencies?
  • As HIV research, prevention and treatment delivery is scaled up in countries around the world, how can the conferences contribute to sharing lessons learned, promoting leadership and accountability, and accelerating progress at the country level?
