In 2017, the Towards an HIV Cure initiative will organize a 1.5-day HIV Cure & Cancer Forum on 22 & 23 July in Paris, immediately preceding the 9th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2017).

An evolution of the annual Towards an HIV Cure Symposia, the Forum will focus specifically on the interface and similarities between HIV cure and cancer research, and seek to merge these two disciplines to accelerate the pace of discovery in HIV cure research.

The Forum will be co-chaired by Prof. Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Dr. Steven Deeks, Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Prof. Sharon Lewin, Director of the Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, University of Melbourne.

Forum Objectives

  • Accelerate research on immunotherapy and epigenetic modification as potential curative strategies;
  • Create an environment to foster collaborations and merge the HIV cure and cancer disciplines;
  • Provide an opportunity for the next generation of investigators to launch their careers through interaction and discussion with peers;
  • Promote increased investments in HIV cure research;
  • Provide a platform for information sharing, debate and network among peers.

The IAS HIV Cure & Cancer Forum will cater to senior, mid career and junior scientists, clinical researchers, scientific journalists, research funding administrators and community representatives from both the HIV cure and cancer fields. To ensure an interactive meeting with dynamic discussions with the audience, the Forum capacity will be limited to 150 attendees. Registration is by confirmation-only; delegates will be selected based on their documented interest in relevant research areas. All applicants will be notified of their registration status by 19 May 2017 at the latest.

Registration Deadline: 15 February 2017

Please note that due to a high level of interest and limited capacity, registration to the IAS HIV Cure & Cancer Forum is now closed.

The Towards an HIV Cure initiative will sponsor a scholarship programme, aiming to support a number of scholarships to young investigators from both the HIV cure and cancer fields, investigators from resource-limited settings, and community representatives.

If interested in applying for a scholarship to attend the HIV Cure & Cancer Forum, please complete the HIV Cure & Cancer Forum registration form indicating that you would like to apply for a scholarship and the type of support you would like to request.

The scholarship application period will be open from 16 January – 2 May 2017.

The Towards an HIV Cure initiative invites you to submit your latest research for consideration as an oral or poster presentation at the IAS HIV Cure & Cancer Forum.

Abstracts will be considered in the following areas:

  • Burden of disease
  • Epigenetics
  • Immunology and immunotherapy
  • Gene therapy
  • Interferon in HIV and cancer
  • Social and behavioural sciences

Please note that abstracts for the IAS HIV Cure & Cancer Forum are submitted separately from the 9th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2017). If you have an abstract related to HIV cure or remission research, we encourage you to submit to the main conference programme of IAS 2017.

If you have any questions regarding the abstract submission system, please refer to the submission guidelines. The abstract submission period is open from 20 March – 2 May 2017.
