THE VANCOUVER SUMMIT - LEADING BY EXAMPLE IN THE PUBLIC HEALTH APPROACH TO ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY
Background The second Global Experts Summit, entitled “Leading by Example in the Public Health Approach to ART,” was held in Vancouver, Canada from February 11 – 13, 2009. The goal of this summit was to develop expert consensus on research needed to optimize the individual and societal benefits of the public health approach to delivering ART.
The specific objectives of the summit were to:
- Evaluate and build consensus on the most scientific data on ART with a focus on initiation, optimization, monitoring and delivery
- Identify additional research required to learn how to maximize the preventative benefit of ART
- Identify key actions by each partner to strengthen human and financial investment in capacity-building and implementation of a robust operations research agenda
