A survey of the related health service require of STD/AIDS in men who have sex with men

Background: To understand the situation of the STD/AIDS infection and the related health service require of STD/AIDS in men who have sex with men(MSM) , and to provide scientific evidence for the targeted intervention towards this population. Methods: Convenience sampling and snowball sampling techniques were applied to recruit participants, and a questionnaire was conducted among MSM in 8 areas of Shandong Province. Results: A total of 1617 MSM completed the investigation. Their average age was 26.45 years, many of them were married, and there were many young students with high education level. The rate of HIV infection was 1.27%, and the rate of syphilis infection was 6.22%. In last year 14.50% MSM were ill with STD. 44.87% MSM saw a doctor to STD special clinic and 23.50% MSM to polyclinic. 70.32% MSM received STD/AIDS education materials and 67.66% received condom service, but the rate of STD diagnosis and treat was very low, and so as the rate of STD/AIDS consultation service. Conclusions: There is an STD/AIDS epidemic among MSM, it is very necessary to lead MSM to have own correct selection for treat, and important to popularize STD/AIDS consultation service for patients who are in demand of related health service.
