In the third IAS Conference our institution presented those data that evinced that pregnant women in Guaiba were getting to know their serological status late (mean 30 weeks), delaing the use HAART in those subjects. Those informations led to the development of a group of actions to try to solve this problem: purchase HIV confirmatory tests to be done in local private laboratories instead of be done in the capital city of our state; active search of women with positive HIV screening test, an advertising campaign highlighting patients and health professionals the importance of HIV/Siphylis testing in pregnancy. Twelve months after those actions implantation the outcome was measured. Goals: This paper’s goal is to evaluate the change in the profile of pregnant woman that searched for HIV test results at Serviço de Assistência Especializada DST/HIV of public health department at Guaiba, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Methods: During 6 months in 2005 all pregnant women that searched for HIV post test counseling in Guaiba were invited to answer an anonymous questionnaire. Results: In this period of time 446 pregnant women were attended , which 7 (1.6%) had confirmatory positive result for HIV test (western-blöt). The mean gestational age of HIV positive women were 24 weeks when received the test result. Discussion: The presenting data show that pregnant women in Guaiba are getting to know their serological status earlier than 2003, although it still late acording to the cientific literature. Outcome: We believe that the group of preventive actions estabilished had paramont importance in reduce the mean gestational age of sorological status knowledge, but new preventives actions should continously be done to try achieve our target.
