A short history of the AIDS epidemic

Perhaps more than any other challenge, AIDS has transformed how we think about society’s response to health and our collective humanity. The International AIDS Conferences (IAC), held since 1985, provide a window on the unique history of this epidemic.

Until There’s a Cure maps out the history of AIDS and our collective attitudes and responses to it, using the previous IACs as key vantage points. What started out as a conventional scientific conference has clearly been transformed into a partnership between a vast array of stakeholders.

This short walk through AIDS history also stresses today’s need for new leadership. The brief cameos of many established figures in the AIDS world speak volumes, and beg the question of where and when more young leaders will emerge.
