Knowledge on HIV/AIDS in pregnant HIV(+) women

An investigation of 58 pregnant HIV (+) women taken from the obstetric services of hospitals in Caracas was undertaken.

Objective: To determine the relationship between social and demographic factors and the knowledge on HIV/AIDS in pregnant HIV(+) women.

Materials and methods: A survey was made to each woman where social and demographic characteristics and knowledge on HIV/AIDS, associate risk factors and prevention on HIV/AIDS. The statistical analyses were based on the reciprocal averaging method and the logistic model.

Results: showed that risk ratios for HIV(+) pregnant women from middle social strata compared with those from low social stratum were 4 and 6, respectively, for knowledge on HIV/AIDS.

Conclusions: The importance of the promotion and planning of appropriate information is fundamental to prevent progress of HIV /AIDS in pregnant HIV(+) women.
