Abstract
Modifying HIV - related risk behavior among students in institutions of higher learning (Nigeria)

Introduction:
According to federal ministry of health (2004) HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the country is over 5%. The ages being affected are mostly young people .It has been established that young people engage in premarital sexual activities and a good number of them have unprotected sex hence the need to examine their risk perception and modify their hiv- related risk behavior.
Objectives:
• To assess HIV- related risk perception among the students.
• To equip the students with information on HIV/AIDS
• To promote attitudinal change in the area of HIV- related risk behavior among the students.
Methodology:
A mobile clinic was used to provided free anonymous voluntary counseling and testing service to students of University Of Ibadan (UI), Adeyemi College Of Education Ondo (ACE) and Osun State Polytechnic Iree (OSPI) in a unicef sponsored programmed. The mobile clinic was equipped with HIV–test kits and HIV testing accompanied by pre-test and post test counseling was conducted on sites by trained health personnel. The mobile clinic worked two days in each institution, conducting HIV test the first day after due counseling and the second day, test results were issued. The students of the various institutions were mobilized through a rally conducted on campus and facilitated by the respective students union government.100 questionnaires were administered to analyze HIV risk perception, HIV/ AIDS awareness and sexual activity among students
Result:
Interactions during the counseling sessions revealed that 80% of the students have multiple sexual partner and indulge in unprotected sex while 20% have steady sexual partner and uses condom.
Analysis of the questionnaires shows a comparative low level of HIV/AIDS knowledge (25-60% correct answers.) 80% of the respondents demonstrated low risk perceptions and do indulge in unprotected sex.
