Abstract
Women, HIV/AIDS and the care home for PLHAs in Pokhara

Objectives: Community Support Group 2059, Pokhara through Positive Forum a support group for PLHAs led by women living with HIV aims to advocate for PLHAs rights to information, access to timely and easy medical and treatment and support services.
Methods: The Care Home Center developed four interrelated elements of approaches: Clinical management including diagnostic and rational treatment for HIV related illnesses; nursing care to promote and maintain hygiene, nutrition, infection control palliative care and health education; psychosocial counseling support to PLHA and families and empower individuals to make informed choices for life; and social support like information and referral, linking into support groups and services.
Results: Entrusting women living with HIV of leadership responsibilities create healthy environment for deterrence in rapid spread of HIV transmission. Women and PLHAs in general now have better exposure with the services available and are coming out due to enabling environment being provided. Stigma and discrimination reduced, PLHAs has been productive. Care Home delivers excellent services as any new initiatives are integrated into existing or planned health systerm of the government and other service providers. Organization linkages established at the on set of the program creates systemmatic referrals and services.
Conclusions: CSG Positive Forum of PLHAs becomes instrumental in bringing the issues of women in common ground to empower in forming national network of women living with HIV. In addition, essential review and upgrade in the skills of women to assume social responsibilities in providing care, treatment and support and develop close network increasing involvement and ownership is indespensable.
