Abstract
Ke Ola Mamo (The Native Hawaiian Healthcare Systems)
A H Ke Ola Mamo CBO, Honolulu, United States
Ke Ola Mamo proposes to reduce incidence of HIV and substance abuse in Hawaii by producing a community driven plan integrating HIVP and SAP services and advocating for implementation of the plan. (i.e. seek funding)
Target Population: Asian and Pacific Islander Transgenders and men who have sex with men (MSM) are targeted in this plan.
Ke Ola Mamo's HIV program called Lei Anuenue provides a core program of general prevention and access to care services targeted to the native Hawaiian population. The program office is located in Honolulu's downtown Chinatown district, serves all transgenders and MSM and others who seek services. Current program services include prevention case management for over 100 TG's and MSM, HIV Orasure testing and counseling, support groups, skills building workshops, speakers bureau and special events.
The plan may include an extension of services to currently provide, along with the filling of gaps that exist. These include: more prvention case management; mobilization of community lieaders and parents of TG's in a speakers bureau to promote understanding of TG lifestyle; drop-in centers in areas that are seriously impacted by substance abuse and areas frequented by TG sex workers.
